Report: Anti-vaccine advocates doing much more harm than good to the autism community

A new report released in the American Journal of Autism Science this week examined the impact that anti-vaccination advocates are having on the autism community. The results are not pretty.

It turns out that since the anti-vaccine cult has adopted the autism community as its go to population to drive home their science-denying ways, the community has suffered far more than it has benefited.

“The report looked at several factors including the incidence of autism being mentioned in a negative light, people with autism being referred to as “damaged or “lost”, and in some cases being told they don’t have a soul” explained lead researcher Dr. Sam Beckett.

Anti-vaccine queen Jenny McCarthy even referred to her own child as not having a soul, saying that when he got his vaccines she “saw the soul leave from his eyes.” Truly mother-of-the-year caliber parenting.

“It has gotten so bad in the anti-vaccine camp that people often say that getting diseases like the measles, mumps, diphtheria, polio and even death is preferable to having autism” explained Beckett. “In contrast, people who are pro-science and pro-vaccine argue that people with autism are not lost, do indeed have a soul, and just have a different way of looking at the world.”

Dr. Sherri Tenpenny, one of the leaders of the anti-vaccine movement, claims to have done over 18,000 hours of research on vaccines and autism. What else could she have done with that time? The average American works approximately 1800 hours a year. That means Dr. Tenpenny could have spent the last 10 years working full-time, or say 20 years working part-time, helping and advocating for people with autism instead of trying to prove that they have been “damaged” by vaccines.

The researchers are urging the anti-vaccine cult members to stop treating people with autism this way. They also have urged them to stop referencing Hitler and Nazi Germany so much. In fact, the team says they next plan on investigating the impact of the anti-vaccination movement’s use of Nazi and Hitler references on holocaust survivors.
