In a move which surprised many of his most ardent followers, Dr. Joseph Mercola announced he will no longer be selling Psyllium fiber capsules due to lack of scientific studies showing their efficacy. The capsules, which previously sold for $52.97 as part of a “Digestive Health Pack with Complete Probiotics” will be removed “immediately from our product line,” Dr. Mercola told reporters from The Spudd.
“I pride myself on only selling products which have undergone rigorous scientific analysis in large randomized double-blind placebo controlled studies. Without these studies, no one can tell if my products are safe and effective. After a thorough review of the scientific literature, I decided the Psyllium fiber capsules did not meet the high standard I demand for my products,” he said.
“Without the science, people might be think that I am in this only for the money,” he said. “This is the sort of thing that keeps me up at night.”
