Editorial: Organic Growers – label your foods with what pesticides you use

It may come as a surprise to many of our readers, but organic foods are often grown with copious amounts of herbicides and pesticides. Organic chemicals include copper sulfate and pyrethrum. Rotenone is notorious for its lack of degradation and copper sticks around for a long, long time. Pesticide exposure has been linked to all kinds of diseases and conditions, from neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson’s to cancer. There is nothing safe about the chemicals used in organic agriculture.

Several states will soon have ballot measures which force organic companies to label their produce with the chemicals they have been sprayed with and the concentrations used. This should not be a difficult decision for anyone. Consumers have a right to know what they are eating.

Unfortunately, organic food is big business, and big business has money. When they feel their business model is threatened, they will stop at nothing to protect themselves. They will try to distract you by screaming “MONSANTO!” and saying their products are “natural.”

Don’t buy it. You, the consumer have the right to know what you and your children are putting in your bodies. Demand labeling now. It’s common sense.
