"Conventional medicine can only put band-aids on problems, not fix them”

Holistic trauma surgeon Dr. Lance Sheppy gave a controversial, but well-received talk at the American Academy of Holistic Surgeons this week. Dr. Sheppy, a surgeon a Yale University, criticized his conventional colleagues saying that their care of trauma patients often involves little more than “putting a bandage over lacerations and other wounds.”

In contrast, holistic surgery avoids these “mere Band-Aids and treats the whole person.”

“Conventional trauma surgery is all about symptom suppression,” he told The Spudd. “That is why they are so quick to use mere Band-Aids and sutures. A holistic approach to trauma care replaces that with understanding the root of the person’s trauma and fixing it by getting to the core of the problem.”

Dr. Sheppy stressed that during his previous training in “conventional surgery,” he too used bandages and sutures unquestionably. His decision to abandon these was a gradual process, but he feels much “more liberated” now that he is not operating under the one-size-fits all approach to trauma management he learned in medical school.
