If you survived measles, everyone else will as well

With the measles outbreak making headline news and the “vaccine debate” heating up, it is clear that there is one glaring truth to this whole mess: if YOU survived the measles growing up, everyone else who gets it will be fine too.

This is a sentiment used quite often by those who feel the measles coverage is being overhyped by the mainstream media.

“I had the measles when I was a kid and so did my brother. It was a week off school and eating ice cream. It was awesome. I don’t see what the big deal is with the measles,” said Melanie Miasma on a recent Facebook story about the outbreak.

One of the strongest forms of “evidence” used by people who are against vaccines is the anecdote. Either they know someone who is vaccine injured or they know of someone who had a vaccine preventable disease and did just fine. These anecdotes can then be extrapolated to everyone on the planet.
