Hundreds of Syrian refugees are reportedly turning back from US borders after learning GMO salmon has been approved for human consumption by the FDA.
“I thought America was a land of opportunity. A place where dreams can come true. Now I see it is just a place where federal regulatory agencies are bought by greedy corporations who plan to poison their own people with unregulated, untested genetically modified foods. No thank you” said one man, picking up his children and promptly walking away.
This man’s sentiments were echoed by many of the refugees we spoke to, most of whom were packing up and heading elsewhere.
“There is no way I am going to raise my family in a country that feeds its people with bigger than average salmon,” said one Syrian mother.
American border patrol was busy assuring the Syrian refugees that you do not have to eat the GMO salmon if you don’t want to, it is completely up to you. They were reportedly met with angry shouts asking if the salmon was going to labeled as GMO, which lead to more yelling and shouting about GMO labeling in general.
At last count, over 300 Syrian refugees had refused to enter the country until the FDA either reverses its approval of the GMO salmon or promises to label all GMO foods.
