ATLANTA, GA – SHEA, the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America, is making headlines again after it announced they are considering making another change to the evidence pyramid.

“Last year we added “I just know” to the top of the pyramid as it was long overdue. This year we are thinking of expanding that criterion to include “I know a guy” as well,” said Dr. John Snow, SHEA President.

The evidence pyramid is a guide used by researchers when evaluating evidence. It generally goes from opinion to fact as you move up the pyramid (Editorial at the bottom, Systematic Reviews at the top).

The society came under a lot of heat last time from the scientific community for adding the “I just know” level to the top of the pyramid, but alternative medicine practitioners and anti-vaccers were thrilled. They are reportedly even more excited about this new rumored change.

“This would be great for us,” said anti-vaccine cult member Joe Golding. “I know a guy who cured cancer with nothing but sun therapy. Bam! Top of the pyramid.”

The new evidence levels still need board approval but all indications are the new pyramid will be formally introduced at this years SHEA conference in May.
