New internal medicine resident Geoff Mercer wasn’t exactly sure what to do on his first day at Massachusetts General Hospital, so he decided he at least better look busy.
“No one really told me where to go or what to do,” explained Mercer. “So I managed to get my hands on a chart and basically rushed around the hospital looking busy, confused and angry for the better part of 18 hours.”
At the end of the day, Mercer met up with his fellow residents to discuss the craziness of their first day of residency.
“I just played along, talked about how busy I was and how many patients I saw, how much I learned, all that stuff” said Mercer. “They all seemed to buy it.”
Mercer is reportedly nervous about tomorrow as he is yet to confirm where he is supposed to go.
