KNOXVILLE, TN – Anti-vaccers are once again up in arms that their beloved Andrew Wakefield, the former doctor who was unfairly targeted for lying and harming children, has once again been snubbed for the Arthur Ashe Courage Award.
“This is an outrage, a travesty” said Tanners Dad Tim, anti-vaccine and anti-autism advocate. “Wakefield is a true hero, perhaps the last true hero in the world.”
The Arthur Ashe Courage Award is presented annually to individuals whose contributions “transcend sports”. While technically the award can go to anyone, giving it to Mr. Wakefield would be a bit of a stretch.
“Andy has played sports before, so that is a non issue,” said Marsha McLellan, anti-vaccer. “He is more deserving of this award than anyone. Period.”
This year the award is being awarded posthumously to Zaevion Dobson, a high school football player who was shot to death while shielding two girls from gunfire. A very deserving recipient, according to normal people.
“Yah this kid saved two lives and that is very courageous. But Andy went in the face of Big Pharma, science, rational thought and ethics. He has probably saved hundreds of children from getting autism. Sure, they probably got measles, but whatever,” explains Tim. “This marks another year where ESPN has really dropped the ball and I’m still not convinced it was gunshots that killed him and not vaccines.”
Anti-vaccers are planning to protest outside the awards.
